Today our 6th graders had an incredible opportunity to learn from none other than Cody Matz from FOX 9 News—and we were thrilled to welcome Mrs. Jans’ 8th Grade Physical Science students and her FUNdamentals classes to join in the experience!
Cody brought weather to life with an engaging 75-minute presentation filled with:
🌤️ A behind-the-scenes look at what it really means to be a meteorologist
🛠️ The tools he uses every day in the forecasting world
🎈 A real weather balloon (a HUGE hit!)
🧪 Hands-on experiments that helped students understand atmospheric pressure
💻 An interactive PowerPoint
❓ A thoughtful Q&A where students asked some incredibly insightful questions
Our students were locked in from start to finish—curious, engaged, and thrilled to learn from what many called “a famous person from television!”
We are so grateful that Cody made the drive out to ACGC to speak with our future scientists, thinkers, and leaders. Learning about weather from someone who lives it every day made the concepts truly come alive.
Thank you, Cody, for inspiring our next generation of meteorologists and science lovers! Your kindness, energy, and passion for weather made this an unforgettable day for our students.
☁️🌈 ACGC appreciates you! 🌈☁️

Today in 6th Grade Earth Science, our young scientists dove hands-on into the world of Plate Tectonics — using graham crackers and frosting to explore how our planet moves and shakes! 🌋
Students built edible models of Earth’s crust and mantle, learning how tectonic plates:
🔹 Pull apart to create new crust at divergent boundaries (like mid-ocean ridges),
🔹 Crash together at convergent boundaries, forming mountains, volcanoes, and deep trenches, and
🔹 Slide past each other along transform boundaries, releasing energy as earthquakes — just like California’s famous San Andreas Fault!
Through laughter, learning, and a little frosting on their fingers, students experienced firsthand how the slow movement of Earth’s plates shapes our mountains, oceans, and continents.
🍴 By the end, everyone understood one key lesson — science can be sweet and powerful all at once!
