The ACGC Robotics program's IQ Teams competed this past weekend at the Northstar Robot Rally in Golden Valley. In a day defined by season-best performances, Team Stackers officially punched their ticket to the State Tournament, while Team Boss Bots delivered a powerhouse performance that has them eyeing a potential postseason invite.
Qualification Rounds: Setting the Pace
Both ACGC teams scored well throughout the day and stayed calm focused under pressure.
Team Boss Bots: Finished qualifications in 5th place with a solid 42-point average. Their highlight was a season-best match score of 53 during their third round.
Team Stackers: Finished qualifications in 9th place with a 38.8-point average. They set the tone early, recording their own season-best match score of 58 in the very first round.
A Dramatic Finals Finish
Vex IQ competitions utilize a sudden-elimination format, pairing teams based on their qualification rankings.
Team Stackers, paired with the OG Team, put up an impressive 44 points in Finals Match 8. This score initially secured them a tie for the top spot on the leaderboard. It wasn't until the final match of the day—where the top-seeded alliance scored 81 points—that the Stackers were bumped from the #1 position.
With a two-way tie for second place, officials turned to the qualification round scores as the tie-breaker. Thanks to their consistent performance earlier in the day, Team Stackers secured the Second Place Award and an official advancement to the State Tournament.
Team Boss Bots, paired with the Cyber Squirrels, fought hard in Finals Match 10, finishing with a score of 24.
Individual Skills & Future Outlook
Beyond the team matches, both squads competed in individual driver skills challenges:
Team Stackers: Achieved a high score of 28.
Team Boss Bots: Achieved a high score of 23.
While the Stackers are officially headed to State, the Boss Bots remain optimistic. Their high skills score places them in a strong position to potentially earn an at-large invitation to the State Tournament later this season.
